As a leader, it’s a good idea to make sure your staff are happy and treated well. A team that appreciates working for you will go out of their way to make sure you are protected as a leader and help your business grow. Check out the ways you can be an amazing leader.
- Respect their work hours. If they are off don’t call them or expect them to work from home, when they are off. Sure, there are some days when employees work overtime. But, make sure this is an option for them. Remember that when your staff is off work, they may have kids or parents to care for or this me their time to relax or spend time with friends.
- Remind your staff about their work benefits. Encourage them to use it.
- Set an example. If employees see you working late nights or sending email after work hours, they may get the impression this is what you expect of them.
- Provide appropriate training so your staff can do a good job. Schedule the training during work hours or let them do it virtually at home.
- Learn the benefits of improving your communication skills. As a leader, you want to be a person who is open to listening to your staff when they have a concern. Consider having a anonymous suggestion box set up in the office that way staff can give suggestions on improvement.
- Offer telecommuting, flexible work schedules and/or mental health days. This is a perk that many people will appreciate.
- Get to know your staff. Schedule a day to meet with them, bring snacks, schedule a lunch.
Be the boss you would like to have. Having a team that appreciates reduces turnover and burnout.
